Goal of project
to design an app & website for content and news sharing.
Research process
My team and I started by looking at existing news engine apps and websites (Mothership, Straits times, Today, etc) and identifying what are some key features that these apps/websites have and what was lacking from them.

My Role
Exisitng key features:
- adjusting of font size to allow users to read better
- social sharing in social media platforms
features that could be improved:
- social sharing within the platform itself
- content personalisation
User Research
As news and content sharing was something that had a relatively large target audience group. We decided to make a list of some key user stories and their needs.
Eventually, we settled on focusing our news app & website design to solve 2 key personas that we felt current news engines apps & websites neglected the most.
george
A 35 year-old educated individual that is eager to gain new knowledge for his growth.
He leads a busy life and has to travel a lot due to the nature of his work.
Goals:
- Be able to read news on the go.
- Stay updated on the latest happenings
Pain points:
- difficult to find news that are worth reading in his busy life
Anna
Goals:
Share interesting news and have meaningful conversations with like minded individuals
Pain points:
hard to share her thoughts and find out ours' opinions on articles read
A 25-year-old social butterfly who likes to share interesting and funny news articles with her friends and loved ones. She is very opinionated and enjoys meeting new people.
Ideation and coming up with solutions
Based on the exploration of ideas and concepts, we began to design the different features in low-fidelity.
Key Solutions/Features we came up with...
Chat function to allow users to share news articles and discuss topics in the news app itself rather than on separate social media platforms(Fb, Whatsapp, Instagram)
Communities page to allow users such as Anna, to easily discover like-minded individuals and have meaningful conversations on issues that matter to them

Reactions feature at comments section to allow users to share how they feel after reading an article and also to get a sense of how others feel about the same topic

User Estimated Reading Time & List Views to allow users such as George to access the most relevant content first and make a decision on which article is worth his time reading
